The catering department is one of the new courses introduced in the 2008/2009 academic year. The department presently has three classes; form one, two and three. These Students form part of the Technical –Vocational Course of the Institute.
The department aims at:
Providing catering students with skills needed to be part of the world of work.
Assisting students to exhibit competency in cooking with verity of food commodities in hygienic environment.
Guiding catering students to be positive in attitude and use time and money judiciously.
The department is manned by three competent and qualified teachers who have gone through similar programmes to attain their higher qualification (Degree).
The following activities are therefore carried out in the department with the total supervision of the teachers.
Practical lesson for students based on the syllabus of the course.
Organizing variety of parties (Buffet, Weddings, Birthdays, etc.)
Providing refreshment for guest, teachers and students during school programmes such as open-day celebration and Parent-Teachers Association Meeting.
Providing meals for the teachers and visitors on workshops, seminars and orientations.
Providing customers care to organization outside the school.
The course is called Catering. It is offered by anyone ready and interested in catering for people. The course is a scientific and artistic course.
The minimum entry requirement is Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E.).
LENGTH OF PROGRAMME:
BECE – Four years
NVTI Grade II – Three years
NVTI Grade I, SSCE with passes in English, Maths, Science and Food and Nutrition – Two years.
