  FABRICATION LABORATORY

Takoradi Technical institute is privileged to be the First in Africa and the sixth in the world to benefit from the Ultra Modern Digital Fabrication Laboratory. The center is equipped with the art of the state information and communication technology (ICT) equipment.
The Fabrication Laboratory (Fab. Lab) was established in July 2004 by the Massachusetts institute of technology (MIT) the center for bits and Atoms (CBA) in the United States of America, as an outreach technology and educational research centre. This was born out of a sister city relationship known as "BOSEKTA" between the citizens of Sekondi Takoradi and Boston in the USA.

OBJECTIVES:
The fundamental objectives of the Fab Lab is to make technology available to the people through the introduction of hands on practical skill training in computing, electronic technology and personal and digital fabrication using computer numerical control machining  (CNC) systems.

EQUIPMENT:
The Fab-Lab is equipped with modern ICT equipment worth over 100,000 these include Laser Cutter, Plasma cuter, Modela, the Vinyl Cutter, Pentium 4 computers and assorted equipments to much with. The Fab-Lab continues to receive regular donations of ICT equipment from the MIT.

PARTICIPATION:
As a community Lab, the centre is opened to the public. Students from Takoradi Technical Institute, students from other sister institutions as well as Tertially Institutions alike use the lab. Even students of the Fab-Lab a place to study

ACTIVITIES:
Those who visit the Fab-Lab, receive instructions in Computer Aided Designing (CAD) Computer Aided Machining (CAM) and basic electronic principles in circuit designing and building.

PROJECTS
Some of the projects successfully undertaken by students at Fab-Lab include:Fablab (HOD)

  •  Fufu Pounding Machine
     
  •  Solar rechargeable lighting System
     
  •  Traffic Lighting System


PROJECTIONS:

The fabrication Laboratory has also developed a curriculum in order to teach the Digital Fabrication Process as a regular programme of study in computing and designing using the CNC system.
This will enhance their competence in practical application of I. C. T. in education. This will give T. T. I. students an added advantage over their counterparts in other institutions of Learning in the Country.
